Have a Cool One: Rays Budweiser Can Release
How cool is it that the Tampa Bay Rays have their own Budweiser can, and that it was designed by local artist Timothy Raines? Celebrate the release of the can from 4-7 tonight at the Gallery at 1 Progress Plaza, St. Petersburg, where you can meet the artist. While you can’t purchase the Budweiser cans at the event, they’ll be serving the beer for free, and it will be available for a limited time at bay area stores and at Rays games. Proceeds from any art purchase in the gallery will benefit Johns Hopkins All Children’s Hospital. Spend $500 or more on a piece and you’ll get a 12-pack of Buds signed by Raines and a signed print. Yes to the Dress: White Magnolia Bridal Sample Sale
Wedding season is upon us, although I tend to believe it’s always wedding season. For all the planning that a wedding takes, choosing the dress is perhaps the most crucial decision a bride-to-be must make, and cost can be a big factor. That’s where the bridal sample sale at the White Magnolia comes in this weekend. The bridal boutique is culling all of the sample sale gowns and accessories from five different bridal shops for the event, making it the largest they’ve ever had. They’ll have around 300 designer gowns that typically range from $1,800 to $7,000 marked down 25 to 90 percent, with wedding gowns starting at $100. Get there early. Item of the Week: Dose Creative
In April, I went to the Mainsail Art Festival in St. Petersburg. As usual, the array of artists was stellar, with truly something for everyone. I zeroed in on a booth that had a lot of pop art posters of musical icons, a Star Wars series and other cultural touchstones. I grabbed a card and found that the artist behind these is Orlando-based Jesse “Jackson” Kunerth, and his company is called Dose Creative. The posters are created digitally, and I especially like the feeling of texture he achieves with them — not easy to do when creating on a computer. At $25 each, the posters are affordable, and he also has T-shirts with different designs. Kunerth also does a cool project called the Travel Art Project, where he creates custom pieces based on photographs he takes on the road. dosecreative.com.
