From Zac Efron cast as Ted Bundy to the Miss USA pageant, here's the best pop culture had to offer this week

Zac Efron cast as Ted Bundy

Efron, the buff and beautiful star of the upcoming Baywatch, has been cast in Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile, a psycho thriller about notorious serial killer Ted Bundy.

Efron's casting was unexpected, given his IMDB record of mostly "bro" comedies and musicals, but not all that surprising given the fact Bundy was reported to have a very charming, manipulative personality.

Even Bundy's own lawyer, John Henry Browne, who represented Bundy in the '70s and '80s, is on board for the Efron casting. According to TMZ, Browne said Efron's background as a heartthrob will give him an "edge tapping into Bundy's persona."

Not convinced Efron is suited for more serious roles? Let me remind you that Matthew McConaughey was in Failure to Launch, The Wedding Planner AND How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days.

This is Efron's McConaughey moment.

The film will be from the perspective of Bundy's longtime girlfriend, Elizabeth Kloepter, and directed by Oscar-nominated documentary filmmaker Joe Berlinger.

Here's what's up in the 'Bachelor' universe

Bachelor star Ben Higgins and his season winner, Lauren Bushnell, called off their engagement on Monday.

"Just to be as politically correct as possible and to also be as truthful as possible, Lauren will always be one of my best friends," Higgins, 29, told E! News. " I learned a lot about myself; I think she learned a lot about herself. Obviously, she knows me better than anybody else that has gone through this experience, and really probably anybody else in the world. It's tough."

Oh well, on to the next one.

Season 13 of The Bachelorette doesn't premiere until May 22, but Rachel Lindsay has confirmed that her season has a happy ending.

"I am very much so in love and very much so engaged," the Dallas attorney told E!, which comes as a surprise since Bachelor and Bachelorette seasons are usually kept top secret.

Wednesday, the contestants vying for Lindsay's heart were released, and there are some pretty interesting bios in the mix. For example, 31-year-old Jonathan listed himself as a "tickle monster" and Lucas is a 30-year-old "whaboom." We have no clue what that means, but it sounds villainous.

Miss USA wears her hair natural

When Miss USA 2016, Deshauna Barber, took her final walk to crown the next pageant winner, the overwhelming response on twitter was something along the lines of "YAS, Queen."

Barber, who lost her mother early in her reign to lung cancer, decided to honor her mother by wearing an Afro on stage.

In a pre-recorded segment that aired before the crowning, Barber said her year as Miss America was "bittersweet" with the loss of her mother.

"I have an Afro, she has an Afro, so she really wanted me to wear my Afro onstage," Barber added. "Today during my final walk, I will be wearing my Afro as a tribute to her. So Mom, this is for you."

And if that wasn't enough for Twitter to take in, Barber got to crown Kara McCullough, who was also wearing her natural hair.

And while McCullough has already sparked up some controversy with her views on health care, saying health care is a privilege and not a right during the question and answer portion, social media was still taken over with #blackgirlmagic.

"I decided to embrace what made me feel comfortable, embrace what makes me feel the best and brightest onstage," McCullough told Refinery 29. "But also embrace what other people can relate to, so that typical, traditional sleek hair, big tease, not to say it's gone out the window, but it's transitioning a lot."

Why'd you have to go and do that, DWTS?

Despite two perfect scores from the judges, Simone Biles and her partner, Sasha Farber, were shockingly eliminated during Monday night's Dancing With the Stars semi-finals. And the Mirror Ball trophy isn't all the gold medalist lost, Biles told Us Weekly that she also lost her six-pack abs during the competition.

"Dance helps keep me in shape, but I've lost my six-pack. I'm not as toned. I think I just lost a little muscle definition."

Her elimination came a week after she told host Tom Bergeron "smiling doesn't win you gold medals," after he asked her why she didn't seem happier with the positive comments from judges.

We didn't deserve you, Biles.

Katy Perry to judge American Idol?

There's been a lot of talk about the resurrection of American Idol, now moving to ABC, with most critics saying it's way too soon for a reboot. Even Kelly Clarkson and Jennifer Hudson, two of the biggest names to come from Idol, have signed on to judge NBC's The Voice instead. Which is why it was such a shock when Katy Perry announced she would be joining the American Idol judging panel next winter. Perry announced the news Tuesday while appearing on The Ellen DeGeneres Show.

Oh, and Perry revealed this week that I Kissed a Girl was about Miley Cyrus. So there's that.

Speaking of Idol, guess who's trying to remain relevant.

After it was reported that Chris Daughtry, a Season 5 contestant on American Idol, was expected to join the panel of judges, Taylor Hicks, the long-forgotten winner of that season is throwing some shade Daughtry's way.

During an interview on Domenick Nati's iHeartRadio show, Hicks was asked about the Daughtry rumors.

And although he said he didn't want to get into who should judge Idol, he did say it should be a winner.

Subtle, Hicks.

"What you go through to win the show is a lot different than what you go through when you're third, fourth, fifth or 10th."

Jennifer Lawrence doesn't have time for Internet shamers

Radar posted a video early Wednesday of Jennifer Lawrence dancing on a stripper pole in an Austrian nightclub back in April, calling the footage of "America's sweetheart" a "bombshell world exclusive."

But Lawrence, 26, took to Facebook to defend her moves.

"Look: Nobody wants to be reminded that they tried to dance on a stripper pole by the internet. It was one of my best friend's birthdays and I dropped my paranoia guard for one second to have fun. I'm not going to apologize, I had a BLAST that night. Ps that's not a bra it's an Alexander Wang top and I'm not gonna lie, I think my dancing's pretty good. Even with no core strength."

We get it, ‘goosebumps' is a good song

While in Oklahoma City, Travis Scott performed goosebumps not once, but 14 times in a row. That's probably not what the crowd meant by encore... Scott now holds the record for the most times a single song has been performed during a concert, a title previously held by Jay Z and Kanye West.

The rapper didn't have long to celebrate, because on Saturday he was arrested on charges of inciting a riot, disorderly conduct and endangering the welfare of a minor. During a concert in Arkansas, Travis Scott, whose real name is Jacques Webster, reportedly encouraged fans to rush the stage, causing several injuries.
