Zac Efron playing serial killer Ted Bundy in new film
Zac Efron is set to take on what could be the darkest role of his career, especially for a guy known for comic fare like the Neighbors movies and the upcoming Baywatch.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Efron is set to star as notorious serial killer Ted Bundy in a movie titled Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile.
The story reportedly centers on Elizabeth Kloepfer, Bundy's longtime girlfriend who famously denied his guilt until eventually turning him in to the police. Oscar-nominated director Joe Burlinger is set to direct.
Bundy's grizzly murders, repeated escapes from law enforcment and decision to act as his own attorney have been documented in several movies. Mark Harmon played Bundy in the 1986 TV movie The Deliberate Stranger, and Michael Reilly Burk played bundy in the 2002 film Ted Bundy.
Bundy was executed in Florida in 1989. Before he died, authorities said, he confessed to 30 killings across the country.
Last month, long-forgotten photos of Bundy were discovered in an antique safe at a newspaper in Colorado.
