On the Camino de Santiago, Day 13: The power of four

Day 13: Villafranca Montes de Oca to Burgos – 37.6 km – 10.75 hours

Straight up. Straight away. We walked out of the albergue's garden and climbed straight up to Alta de la Pedraja. A strong start to a long day - my longest day yet.

We grew from two, back down to one, to three, to four at times throughout the day. All felt right, especially on the home stretch: the long, sweaty, seemingly-endless walk into Burgos.

Determined to reach our destination - all for different reasons - we teamed up and powered through the worst part of the day to reach Burgos by early evening. It gave us just enough time to enjoy some wine, run into some "old" friends, grab dinner and ice cream, and enjoy the bustle and vibrancy of a Saturday night in a big city.
