LAND O'LAKES — A 29-year-old man accused of attacking his family, smashing car windows and waving a butcher knife in the air was subdued Tuesday after a violent encounter with Pasco sheriff's deputies.
The body cameras worn by the deputies recorded the capture of Miles Setty, 29, of Land O' Lakes. Deputies struggled to get Setty to obey their orders, the video showed, and he had to be shocked repeatedly with Tasers before throwing his knife away and surrendering.
Tuesday's incident started, according to the Pasco County Sheriff's Office, when Setty pushed his mother and then grabbed and injured a second person. He then struck a vehicle with a broom stick and a large flower pot, deputies said, causing more than $1,000 in damage.
Setty also cut himself in the process, according to the arrest report, and appeared to be under the influence of drugs and alcohol.
He fled and climbed an 8-foot fence into another neighborhood, the Sheriff's Office said, where deputies found him. He waved a large knife, deputies said, as they aimed their Taser elctroshock weapons at him.
The video showed Setty refusing to drop the knife. Two deputies used their electroshock devices but with little effect, the report said, possibly because they believed Setty was intoxicated. Setty eventually complied with the deputies' orders. He threw his knife away. Deputies then forced him to the ground and handcuffed him.
Both deputies sustained minor injures in the arrest and were treated at Florida Hospital Wesley Chapel.
Setty was arrested on charges of aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer, battery on a law enforcement officer, felony criminal mischief, battery, domestic battery and resisting arrest. His jail status was unknown Wednesday.
