UF, USF games still up in air, UCF game canceled

The SEC has been communicating with Florida and Tennessee about Saturday's scheduled game in Gainesville as the state begins to assess the damage from Hurricane Irma.

"Now that the storm has passed through Gainesville, the University of Florida is working with local authorities to assess the effect of the storm on the campus and the Gainesville community, at the same time ensuring the appropriate security and local officials are available to host a game," SEC commissioner Greg Sankey said in a statement.

The Gators and Volunteers are scheduled to play their annual rivalry game at 3:30 on CBS.

Another rivalry game slated for this weekend (Florida State-Miami) was moved to Oct. 7, the teams' common bye week.

Also, UCF canceled its second straight home game because of the hurricane.

The Knights and Georgia Tech called off Saturday's game, the school announced. The teams and their leagues explored other options but won't reschedule the nonconference game.

Instead of football, Spectrum Stadium and the area near it will be used to help aid recovery efforts.

Meanwhile, Monday afternoon came and went with no formal announcement on the status of USF's scheduled home game Friday night against Illinois. The effects of the storm were still being assessed by USF officials.

In response to a Monday morning Tweet encouraging the teams to go ahead and play Friday, Bulls athletic director Mark Harlan responded: "Too early-will see how Tampa looks today, assure we can get our practices in & work w/our partners...will let all know ASAP."

Illinois reportedly has offered to host the game, but whether that's a viable option is unclear.

Buckeyes still upset

Ohio State coach Urban Meyer said his team still is somewhere between being angry and trying to move on after the loss to Oklahoma revealed glaring fundamental problems with quality of play as well as play-calling.

The Ohio State passing game was terrible, and Oklahoma quarterback Baker Mayfield carved up the Buckeyes secondary as the Sooners romped to a 31-16 victory at Ohio Stadium on Saturday night. Ohio State running backs all but disappeared, leaving Meyer to question the play-calling of offensive coordinator Kevin Wilson.

Meyer said everything is being evaluated this week before Army visits Saturday.

"You go from devastated and crushed to (angry), and then you have to move forward as a leader and get going," Meyer said. "We're somewhere between two and three right now, the (angry) and moving forward. Our players, they're resilient. They get over things quickly so it's our job to get over them quickly and move forward and fix the problems that caused the failing."

Also, Sooners quarterback Baker Mayfield apologized for planting the school flag at midfield after the game.

ASSISTANT HAS SEIZURE: Rutgers offensive coordinator Jerry Kill was hospitalized after suffering a seizure Sunday. Kill, 56, is expected to be fine, head coach Chris Ash said. The former Minnesota coach has dealt with epilepsy for almost two decades.

BAYLOR: The 0-2 Bears will make a change at quarterback, starting sophomore Zach Smith Saturday at Duke in place of Anu Solomon.

LOUISVILLE: Senior running back Jeremy Smith will miss the rest of the season after fracturing his right foot, leaving the No. 14 Cardinals without one of their top rushers for Saturday's game against third-ranked Clemson.

LSU: Pass rusher Arden Key has been cleared to come back from shoulder surgery and play Saturday at Mississippi State, coach Ed Orgeron said. Key had a school-record 12 sacks last season.

N.C. STATE: Will Richardson will start at left tackle Saturday, ending a two-game suspension. Cornerback Mike Stevens appeared on the two-deep for the first time after missing the first two games with a lower leg injury.

WASHINGTON ST.: Luke Falk will remain the starting quarterback Saturday after being removed from last week's game in the second half.
