Storm recovers late fumble, wins third straight at Washington

The Storm pulled off its third straight dramatic victory, 41-33 at Washington as the Valor lost a fumble after reaching the 1-yard line in the final minute Saturday.

Tampa Bay's defense had not made a stop all game, and didn't look poised to add one when former Storm player T.T. Toliver ran the ball down to the 1-yard line with 45 seconds left. But on the next play quarterback Erik Meyer fumbled and Paul Stephens recovered at the 13. Tampa Bay ran out the clock.

Meyer had fumbled three times but Washington had recovered them all.

Randy Hippeard threw for 205 yards and five scores, and added a 1-yard touchdown run on the final play of the first half for a 27-14 lead. But Washington came out with a touchdown and a stop. Tampa Bay scored on the final play of the third quarter, Hippeard hitting Lamark Brown for a 34-27 lead.

Washington missed the extra point after its next touchdown, and Tampa Bay went back up 41-33 with 4:23 remaining on Joe Hill's third touchdown catch. Hills caught nine passes for 85 yards.

Tampa Bay (4-1) plays Washington (1-3) again next Saturday, starting off a four-game homestand at Amalie Arena.
