Tampa Bay Tech 35, Strawberry Crest 0

Armwood 24, Plant City 0

Spring game-breakers: Tampa Bay Tech didn't waste any time getting on the scoreboard in the first half, and running back Jaquavious Johnson rushed for 65 yards on four straight plays to find the end zone one minute and 22 seconds in. Titans quarterback Michael Penix Jr. finished 4-for-5 with 101 yards passing, including a 35-yard touchdown pass to Malik Young and an 8-yard touchdown pass to Justin Mazariegos. The Titans defense held Strawberry Crest to 32 yards rushing and 32 yards passing. … Armwood quarterback Devin Black threw for 126 yards and two touchdowns, both caught by Jerome Ford, who ended the night with 83 yards on the two receptions. Armwood scored its other touchdown when Caleb Sutherland blocked a punt and returned it 15 yards to the end zone. Armwood's defense limited Plant City to 34 yards on the ground.

Did you know? Armwood still doesn't have a placekicker on its roster, and as expected, coach Sean Callahan elected to go for two after all three touchdowns. All 2-point conversions were good, with Black throwing to Warren Thompson and Brian Snead for two through the air, and Snead running the ball on the third. "I hope we get a kicker," Callahan said, "because we need one."

Audible I: "I'm excited for this group, I really am. We could be as good as 2010, 2011. We really have enough kids and we have quality depth, which is something you need to have to win a state championship. I'm encouraged by that. We're healthy. We've got good attitude." — Callahan

Audible II: "We were coming in, coach was telling me we were going to throw the ball, and I was very excited. I knew I was going to have my receivers open. I trust them, and I trust my O-linemen to block for me to get the ball to the receivers, so it was great." — Penix Jr. on his two-play, 75-yard touchdown drive
