USF promotes Billy Mohl to baseball coach

TAMPA — Billy Mohl, who served as USF's pitching coach for the past three seasons, was promoted to be the seventh coach in program history late Friday.

Mohl replaces Mark Kingston, who formally departed earlier Friday after three years to accept the same position at South Carolina.

A former Tulane standout, Mohl shaped USF's pitching staff into one of the nation's most formidable. The Bulls finished with a program-record 620 strikeouts in 2017 while ranking 10th nationally in team ERA (3.24).

"(Mohl) has a tremendous track record of recruiting and developing high caliber student-athletes, did a tremendous job with our pitching staff over the past three seasons and is more than ready to lead our program," USF athletic director Mark Harlan said in a statement.
