1Train Day: Tampa's historic Union Station will have a series of free family-friendly events to mark the anniversary of the completion of the first transcontinental railroad. Amtrak dropped the event this year due to budget cuts, but the Friends of Tampa Union Station volunteers will keep the celebration rolling. There will be train displays from the Florida Railroad Museum and railroad clubs, historic exhibits, live music and food trucks 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at 601 N Nebraska Ave., Tampa.

2Florida Orchestra Family Concerts: The orchestra's principal harpist, Anna Kate Mackle, joins principal percussionist John Shaw to demonstrate their instruments at 10 and 11:30 a.m. Saturday. Arrive early for an instrument petting zoo and a storytime for preschoolers through second grade. The 11:30 a.m. performance is sensory friendly. Concerts are "pay what you can" at Mahaffey Theater, 400 First St. S, St. Petersburg.

3Tampa Bay Night of Prayer: With speaker Darryl Strawberry at the dais, the annual prayer breakfast hosted by the Christian Business Men's Connection has been moved to George M. Steinbrenner Field this year to accommodate the crowd. The four-time World Series champion and Tampa native will share his story of redemption and struggles with substance abuse. 7-8:15 p.m. Tuesday. 1 Steinbrenner Drive, Tampa. Free, but tickets required from tampabayprayer.com.

4Tampa Bay Boat Show: If you are ready to ride the waves, this three-day sales event features the area's top boat dealers as well as boating and fishing supplies and accessories. Some of the area's top fish guides and local experts share tips, secrets and fun stories on how to "catch the big one." 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday-Saturday and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday. Florida State Fairgrounds, 4802 U.S. 301 N, Tampa. Free. (727) 893-8523.

5Gridiron Cooking Challenge: Watch as area elementary and middle school students prepare their best healthy, dairy-based recipes at One Buc Place for a panel of judges set up by the Florida Dairy Farmers association. Winners get a $2,500 prize pack for their school and additional prizes. There will also be cooking demonstrations by Publix, and photo opportunities with Buccaneer Ali Marpet, Buccaneers cheerleaders and team mascot Captain Fear. 9 a.m. to noon Saturday. 1 Buccaneer Place, Tampa. Free.

    Chalk up one more closure to Hurricane Irma: The huge Dia de los Muertos Fiesta originally planned for Saturday in Dunedin has been scrapped for what would have been its 25th year.

    At last year’s Dia de los Muertos, Casa Tina owner Tina Marie Avila (crouching) shows her “Ofrenda,” or Day of the Dead alter. What would have been the 25th annual Dia de los Muertos Fiesta on Saturday had to be canceled this year because of Hurricane Irma. The folk festival will be back next year.
