Plan your weekend

Call your dad

Father's Day: This Sunday you can skip getting another tie or bucket of golf balls for Dad and spend time together instead. Dad eats free at the GameTime arcade in Ybor City with the purchase of an entree, appetizer or kids meal. And they get in free with another paid admission at Dinosaur World, MOSI , the Tampa Bay History Center and the Chihuly Collection of stunning glass art in St. Petersburg. Find a complete lineup at tampabay.com/holiday.

Comedy

Tig Notaro, Jim Jefferies: Two of today's most buzzed-about comics will both be at Tampa's Straz Center for the Performing Arts on Friday. Jim Jefferies will be in the big room, Morsani Hall, with pointed commentaries on politics and culture, while Tig Notaro's easygoing musings will be on stage in Ferguson Hall. Jefferies, who last week premiered his own Daily Show-style weekly series on Comedy Central, goes on at 8:30 p.m. and tickets are $39.50. Notaro, whose most recent TV special, Boyish Girl Interrupted, saw a return to lighter material, is on at 8 p.m. Friday in Ferguson Hall and tickets are $27.50 and up. strazcenter.org.

Concert

Dierks Bentley: Last summer's headlining show in Tampa was a wildly entertaining affair, and this year the Arizona native has got fellow tailgate tippler Cole Swindell (Chillin' It) and California-cool crooner Jon Pardi (Dirt on My Boots) opening, so it should be just as good at 7 p.m. Friday at the MidFlorida Credit Union Amphitheatre, 4802 U.S. 301 N. Remaining tickets start at $45. (813) 740-2446. livenation.com.

Party

Grown Up Night: Adult's take over the Glazer Children's Museum on Friday with a '90s throwback party and experiences with snowboards, a Mars rover and a 360-degree freeze motion video from the museum's new Math Alive exhibit. There's even a beer garden on the terrace, so book a babysitter and an Uber driver. 5-9 p.m. Glazer Children's Museum, 110 W Gasparilla Plaza, Tampa. $20 advance, $25 at the door. (813) 443-3861. glazermuseum.org.

Theme parks

Summer Nights: This weekend brings back the Busch Gardens Summer Nights parties with extended hours, three themed party zones, thrill rides in the dark, an all-new ice show and summer-themed cuisine. Across the street at the Adventure Island water park, Island Nights will extend the park's hours to 8 p.m. for DJ dancing, beach games and tropical-themed entertainment. Both are included with admission.

Dogs

Sunshine State Clusters: Ready to see dogs with way better grooming habits than most people? Thousands of dogs in all breeds, even junior dogs, will compete 8 a.m.-6 p.m. Thursday through Sunday at the Florida State Fairgrounds. There will also be a dock diving competition and a special presentation to Tampa International Airport K-9 officer Vika. 4800 U.S. 301 N, Tampa. $5, children free. (941) 356-2038.

  2. Recipe for Chicken Wings with Coconut Sweet Potato Puree

    Cooking

This dish is an homage to one of my favorite Epcot International Food and Wine Festival dishes: Grilled Beef Skewer With Chimichurri Sauce and Boniato Puree from the Patagonia kiosk. A boniato is a sweet potato with whiter flesh and a typically sweeter flavor. I use standard sweet potatoes in this recipe, plus a little …
